Novelis, a US-based producer of aluminum rolling and recycling solutions, has rolled out its independently certified, high-recycled content aluminum sheet - evercan - for the beverage can market.

Novelis evercan aluminum beverage can body sheet contains a minimum of 90% recycled aluminum and enables beverage companies to deliver soft drinks and other beverages in a low-carbon footprint package.

Novelis president and chief executive officer Phil Martens said: "Our Novelis evercanTM high-recycled content beverage can body sheet, backed by the industry's first independent certification program, represents tremendous progress in sustainable consumer products packaging."

The new Novelis evercan will enable beverage producers to sell their beverages in standard 12oz aluminum cans certified as made from a minimum of 70% recycled content.

This aluminum sheet has been certified for high-recycled content by a third-party environmental, sustainability and food quality certification company SCS Global Services.

Currently available in North America and European markets for commercial use, evercan will be available across the globe later this year.

Novelis chief sustainability officer John Gardner said: "This first phase of the Novelis evercanTM high-recycled content initiative serves as a critical catalyst for Novelis to work more closely with consumer brand customers, our supply chain partners and other community stakeholders to increase end-of-life recycling of used beverage containers."
