Royal FrieslandCampina has successfully completed its acquisition of cheese specialist Zijerveld and its packaging unit Den Hollander Food, following approval of the transaction by the European Commission on 12 April 2013.
Zijerveld and Den Hollander will become part of FrieslandCampina Cheese, Butter & Milkpowder. Zijerveld provides its customers with tailor-made concepts in addition to a wide range of Dutch and foreign cheeses. The company has its own logistics services. The cheese specialist, which is located in Bodegraven, employs approximately 300 people and operates its own ripening warehouses, packaging and logistics plants. Zijerveld consists of three commercial divisions: Retail, Traditional & Out of Home and International Markets. The company will continue to operate independently and retain its own identity.
Zijerveld’s packaging unit Den Hollander Food is based in Lochem. It operates 13 packaging lines, three of which are for grated cheese. The emphasis is on sliced cheeses in various reclosable packaging. The lion’s share of production is destined for large European retailers and other cheese producers. The packaging unit employs approximately 140 people.
