Former Manchester United football club manager Sir Alex Ferguson plans to acquire a vineyard in south of France in summer 2013.
Ferguson, who retired from the managing post this week, is expected to spend around £2m to purchase the vineyard.
Bordeaux-based consultancy Vineyard Intelligence director Alexander Hall was quoted by Decanter.com as saying that prospective buyers of vineyards must look out for either small estate in a renowned appellation or a large estate in a less renowned appellation.
"You pay your money and make your choice," Hall added.
"The estate agent slogan is location, location, location, only that I would say its appellation, appellation, appellation."
Demand for vineyards in the Bordeaux region is growing continuously after the global financial crisis due to interest from new world regions such as China.
