Canned tuna, sardines and mackerel from German importer Otto Franck Import KG, under the LaPerla brand have received Friend of the Sea (FOS) chain of custody certification.
LaPerla products includingEuropean pilchard, mackerel and skipjack tuna can now carry the Friend of the Sea seal of approval.
An international independent certification body assessed Otto Franck chain of custody based on an accurate documental and onsite analysis which enables the company to trace every can back to the approved fleet. The storage management system in place assures that no mixing between FOS and NON FOS products occurs.
“We share the same sustainability vision of Friend of the Sea program,” said Dr. Kraus, Otto Franck general manager. “Friend of the Sea has become a leading sustainability standard for seafood and this recognition provides an important added value for our clients.”
In addition, FOS announced it launched several informative and awareness initiatives in elementary schools.
Thousands of elementary school children had the opportunity to participate in presentations from marine biologists to learn relevant conservation principles and the meaning of sustainability.
The school awareness program is a free initiative, and FOS plans to further expand it.
