Santa Monica Seafood on Friday announced the recipients of its Responsible Sourcing Vendor Partnership (RSVP) Program.
The seafood company chose Pfleger Institute of Environmental Research’s program to develop and test deep water, selective swordfish gear aimed at reducing bycatch.
“Our customers are particularly enthusiastic about local programs,” said Logan Kock, Santa Monica’s VP of strategic purchasing and responsible sourcing. “Swordfish is a local resource we’re very interested in conserving; for the future of fish and the future of the fishermen who depend on them.”
RSVP funding was renewed for the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership’s Gulf of California Shrimp Fishery Improvement Project and the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute.
New funds were also allocated for the Trygg Mat Foundation’s work to keepan updated IUU vessel list. The list contains all vessels listed for participating in Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported fishing by eight Regional Management Fishery Organizations.
