The event will take place at the Beam-owned Old Kilbeggan Distillery in County Westmeath on August 17, where guests will enjoy a tour of the oldest licensed distillery in Ireland and lunch before the event which will see representatives from Ireland, Scotland and the US debating whiskies from their respective countries in three key rounds.
Each round will feature a whiskey from Ireland, Scotland and the US, so guests will have the chance to sample up to nine brands including Kilbeggan, Teacher’s, Jim
Beam, Connemara and Laphroaig, among others.
John Cashman, global whiskey ambassador, John Campbell, Laphroaig distillery manager, and Adam Harris, Bourbon ambassador, will fight their corner for the Ultimate World Whiskey title.
The event which will be overseen by master ambassador Simon Brooking and will comprise round 1, which will consist of standard blended whiskey; round two, premium unpeated whiskey; and round three, premium fully peated whiskey. Guests and ambassadors will debate the merits of the whiskies by voting for their favourite in each round.
After the title has been won, the organisers will be take guests back to the centre of Dublin to celebrate with the winner and commiserate with the losers over a dram or two in its dedicated bars in the Irish capital.
