McCain Foods USA said it will invest more than $100 million to expand its manufacturing plant in Burley, Idaho. The expansion will include the addition of a third production line, which will make potato products for the food service industry and restaurant clients. It is expected to be operational by the end of 2015.
The Burley plant was built in the 1960s. It is one of several manufacturing plants McCain operates throughout the United States. In addition to Burley, McCain has potato processing plants in New Albany, Ind.; Easton, Maine; Othello, Wash.; and Plover, Wis. The company also operates five appetizer facilities and one pizza plant.
“There is an increasing demand for potato products from customers nationwide and around the world,” said Frank van Schaayk, regional president for The Americas at McCain. “We made the decision to invest in our Burley plant because of its strong potato grower community, highly capable workforce and tremendous support from the local and state government.”
Jeff McCray, plant manager at Burley, said McCain intends to buy potatoes locally for the new third production line, which he said means more business for the local community.
