The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), an Indian dairy co-operative operating under Amul brand, is set to invest INR30bn ($474.7m) in the next two years across India.
The investment will be used to establish ultra-modern dairy plants and increase milk procurement from farmers in states other than Gujarat.
The Indian dairy giant plans to expand its presence in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Besides plans to establish five new plants in Gujarat, it will also establish five dairy plants in major cities such as Delhi, Kanpur, Kolkata and Lucknow.
Apart from this, GCMMF plans to foray into Guwahati and South India by establishing new dairy plants.
GCMMF managing director RS Sodhi told Indian Cooperative: "The GCMMF would also soon be exploring for business possibilities in South India and the North East."
