India-based Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the marketer of the Amul brand of milk and dairy products, plans to launch liquid milk in the US in 2014.
The company also plans to export milk products from the US to Canada and European nations in future.
Under the plan, GCMMF is geared up to begin the production of ghee (clarified butter) and paneer (cottage cheese) at a plant in New Jersey from February 2014.
Meanwhile, Amul has already joined forces with a local cooperative dairy to supply milk for processing.
Amul Dairy managing director RK Srivastava was quoted by the Business Standard as saying that the company usually exports ghee from here to the US, but it takes around one-and-a-half month to reach.
"Also, while there is a promising market for paneer in the US, both for households and restaurants, we cannot export from here as it is a perishable commodity," added Srivastava.
