Tesco areTesco set to take on technology giants Google and Amazon with the unveiling of its own-brand "Hudl" tablet next week, on 23 September.

The supermarket chain has sent out invitations to a launch event using the phrase "We've got something to show you" and using Tesco's new 'Hudl' trademark.

It has been rumored for quite a while that Tesco were keen to take on the budget tablet market and suggestions for a possible price range somewhere between €100-€120.

It's likely that the Tesco Hudl tablet will run on Google's mobile operating system, Android.

Mobile analyst with research firm CCS Insight Ben Wood suggested that Tesco may price the device, which is expected to have a 7-inch screen, under €100.

The 8GB Amazon Kindle Fire costs £99 from Amazon, while Google's newest Nexus 7 costs £199 for the 16GB model, while a 16GB version of Apple's iPad mini currently costs £269.

A launch next week would put Tesco's tablet device in prime spot for Christmas sales.

Tesco applied for a trademark back in February for the Hudl name to cover a wide range of goods, including tablets and accessories.
