Today the Hershey Company (NYSE: HSY) announced to roll out a version of the Lancaster brand it launched in China earlier this year into the US market.
The US Lancaster line will feature caramel soft cremes and will go on US shelves in January. The range will comprise three flavours: caramel; vanilla and caramel; and vanilla and raspberry. Packaged in 4oz and 8oz bags, the products will have RRPs of $2.49 and $3.99 respectively.
Hershey introduced Lancaster milk candies into China in May, the first time the company had launched a brand into an overseas market. Lancaster brand candies are carefully crafted through a proprietary Nai Bei candy-making process that requires high-quality imported milk and slow cooking. This process creates a rich, creamy flavor that represents a new candy experience for consumers in China.
“Lancaster was carefully developed with the consumer experience in mind. We believe that quality ingredients and craftsmanship are what make Lancaster extraordinary and making something extraordinary takes time,” said Jane Xu, Vice President and General Manager of Greater China for The Hershey Company.
The initial launch in May included three cities - Wuhan, Hangzhou and Chengdu - and will be followed by a wider distribution in China in 2014.
