Glanbia start redundancy programme in Ireland

John Moloney [pictured], outgoing managing director, stated last month that the consumer products division experienced a difficult first half of the year.Glanbia had to deal with the rise in market share by private label products, at the expense of branded products.

The food group has a total staff of 2,000 people in the country. 650 of those work in the consumer products division, with brand-names such as Avonmore Dairy and Kilmeaden Cheese.

Employees working at the Glanbia sites in Citywest, Dublin, Drogheda, Co. Louth and Ballitore, Co. Kildare will be affected by the redundancy programme. It is unknown how many jobs will be lost in total.

"The final details of which have yet to emerge as it will be a blend of those who avail of consumer products voluntary redundancy programme or relocation and outsource job opportunities and discussions with employees and their representatives,” a Glanbia representative told the Irish Times.

Along with the redundancies, the company will be involved in a reorganisation of consumer products including a capital investment programme in new technologies and facilities.
