Bordeaux, a port city in southwestern France, has allotted around €63m to build Cite de Civilisations du Vin in the city.
The proposed project, which will be spread over an area of around 10,000m², will house elements of tasting, gastronomy, a museum, sensory experiences and cultural and historical resources, reported harpers.co.uk.
This wine city project is scheduled for completion in 2016.
Around 425,000 visitors are expected to the city annually, by generating around €40m in the local economy directly and indirectly.
Commenting on the project, Wine Vision president Sylvie Cazes was quoted by harpers.co.uk as saying, "Traditionally Bordeaux hasn't sold wine directly to the public, so we had little infrastructure for tourists, but this is changing and tourism is changing faster still.
"We are inviting cooperation from the global wine trade and everyone can play a part.
"This should help the whole industry and, of course, hopefully Bordeaux."
