The Agriculture Ministry is yet to receive word from its Australian counterpart on the export of our ginger.
Permanent Secretary, Ropate Ligairi says the first consignment of ginger was supposed to have left our shores for Australia in September this year but this did not happen as Fiji did not meet the standards required for export.
“We are still waiting. People from Australia had come to Fiji to audit our supply chain but so far we are still waiting for their response. This is an area that we are also looking at come 2014, we will be targeting ginger for that market.”
Ligairi adds they will continue to work at securing markets for home grown commodities.
