New Zealand-based Whitehaven Wines has received approval from the Marlborough District Council to expand its production capacity.
The expansion includes the installation of 28 tanks on a new pad to the southwest of the existing winery building.
Whitehaven Wines will now increase its capacity by around 50%, by boosting its production from 5000 tons of grapes to 7500 tons annually.
The phase I of the expansion is scheduled for completion in early March, stuff.co.nz reported.
According to the company, the council has given nod to the expansion proposal with certain conditions including landscape planting and road widening.
Marlborough District Council Jeremy Butler told the news site that with the required landscape planting and road widening, the proposal would not result in any adverse effects on the environment that were more than minor.
