In 2014, the Government of Extremadura will continue providing support for the export of Jerte cherries to new markets such as Denmark, Estonia and Brazil, as stated by the general director of Commerce and Investments, Miguel Córdoba. Córdoba stated that Jerte cherries "bring the flavour of Extremadura to every place in the planet, making them one of the most valued Extremaduran products overseas."
The importance of cherries for the Valley of Jerte is reflected in the fact that almost half of the cherries exported by Spain last year were grown in this region; to be precise, 12 million kilos valued at 27 million Euro.
According to Córdoba, Jerte cherries stand for a series of values, among which he cited fair trade, organic production, environmental awareness and corporate social responsibility, "which gives them a huge added value in the international market."
