The 'Schweizer Obstverband' has shared the current stocks of hand apples and pears, reports the German website Fruchthandel.de.
Hand apples: The stored amount as of the end of March 2014 is around 109 tonnes under the storage amount of last year (29,235 tonnes) at 29,216 tonnes, and around 3,727 tonnes under the storage amount in 2012 (32,853 tonnes). Most of the apples in storage are the variety Gala at 8,255 tonnes and Golden Delicious at 6,877 tonnes. They are followed by the varieties Breaburn (4,235 tonnes), premium varieties (2,936 tonnes), Jonagold (2,033 tonnes), Milwa (1,339 tonnes), La Flamboyante (1,207 tonnes), Idared (1,132 tonnes), Maigold (440 tonnes), Pinova (250 tonnes), Topaz (179 tonnes), Glockenapfel (80 tonnes), other varieties (50 tonnes) and Granny Smith (9 tonnes). The other varieties are all but sold out.
The storage amount of the main varieties Gala and Golden Delicious are 533 tonnes and 3,012 tonnes under last year's level. The two varieties combined make up around 52% of the total stored amount.
Hand pears: The pears still in storage are almost exclusively Kaiser Alexander pears at 715 tonnes, followed by 6 tonnes of other varieties and 2 tonnes of the Bonne Louise d'Avranches.
