Canadian salmon farmer Skuna Bay Salmon has named two celebrity chefs as the judges for its Kentucky Derby Chef Challenge Final, to be held on 30 April.
Chef Tyler Wiard, culinary director of Elway’s in Colorado and Andrew Sutton, Disney Signature Chef in Anaheim, Calif. will judge the competition, held during the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Wiard is known for competing in 2013’s Top Chef Seattle competition, while Sutton competed in the 2013 Kentucky Derby Chef Challenge.
“We are excited and gratified to have as judges, the participation of two great chefs who are well known as culinary leaders,” said Head Farmer Stewart Hawthorn of Skuna Bay Salmon. “Both judges have a strong familiarity with Skuna Bay Salmon and its versatility so that was important. It helps that both have visited our farms in person to see the process for themselves.”
Wiard and Sutton will join the competition’s third judge, Chef Allen Akmon, head of Sullivan University’s Culinary College in Louisville. The annual competition features chefs trying to produce the best dish with Skuna Bay salmon products. The two finalists vying for the title are Chef Sarah Schafer of Irving Street Kitchen in Portland, Ore. and Chef Edward Sura of Perennial Virant in Chicago, Ill.
