Manuel Evora, president of Portugal Fresh, told the Lusa News Agency "that 38% of all Portuguese vegetables, fruit and flowers are currently exported. Evora made this statement during a meeting in Lisbon, where he explained, among other topics, why Portugal has been chosen as the official partner for Fruit Logistica 2015.
He stressed that the country's exports achieved a 2.6 billion Euro turnover; 26% more than in the past three years. He also mentioned the appointment of Portugal as an official partner of Fruit Logistica "a historic day for Portuguese agriculture," as the exhibition attracts 65,000 visitors from 141 countries.
Assunção Cristas, Minister of Agriculture, was also present at the meeting to praise the agricultural sector for its good prospects. Cristas said that although there is still room for growth in terms of fruit and vegetable exports to Europe, the sector is already looking to expand to other markets.
