Waitrose has struck a deal with French supermarket chain Auchan which means Waitrose products will be on sale in Portugal.
In Lisbon and the Algarve this week 100 products including everything from cheddar cheese, to strawberry persevere, to ginger beer, went on sale in six Auchan outlets. The operation is, of course, being carried out with Britons holidaying in Lisbon in mind.
David Morton, Waitrose's business-to-business director, stated:
"We are excited to be continuing our expansion throughout Europe by bringing Waitrose products to Portugal, an incredibly popular destination with British holiday-makers and expats alike."
Waitrose named its private-label teabags and marmalade as key reasons why it grew its export sales by almost 30 per cent in 2013. The retailer announced last month it will export branded products from SMEs.
Doves Farm Organic and Cornish Sea Salt are among the brands now working with Waitrose.
The company now exports to 50 countries in each continent of the world, including South Korea, Chile, the Caribbean, Taiwan. Their products are also available on Eurostar trains.
