Employees at the OSI Group-owned Amick Farms poultry processing plant in Hurlock have returned to work after an ammonia leak caused the building to be evacuated July 28 early in the morning, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office.

The leak occurred around 6:15 a.m. Hurlock Police Chief Les Hutton said an on-site management team, haz-mat and officers from the Hurlock and Cambridge police departments were on the scene. No injuries were reported.

The Hurlock VFC, which also responded, said the investigation into the incident determined a faulty valve as the source of the leak.

Batesburg-Leesville, SC-based Amick Farms is a vertically integrated poultry processor producing fresh and frozen chicken products. The company, which was purchased by OSI Group in November 2006, has facilities in South Carolina, Maryland and Delaware.
