Core Tip: The Regulatory Council of the Protected Designation of Origin Cereza del Jerte (Jerte Cherry) has started certifying the first cherries of the Navalinda variety.
These cherries, which will soon hit the market, include a label that guarantees the highest quality. The President of the Regulatory Council, Ignacio Montero, said that prospects for the campaign "are good" for this variety, and that "everything now will depend on the weather."

So far, cherries of "excellent quality and great taste" are expected, says Montero. Approximately 60% of the cherry production is intended for foreign markets. In the Jerte Valley, the cultivation of cherries is carried out in a natural, traditional way, without additives, which makes it possible for the cherries and picotas to have a "unique" flavour, with a high content of vitamins, trace elements, flavonoids, etc.

After a careful selection, following "rigorous" quality control standards, "only the best are branded" with the seal PDO Cereza del Jerte. There are many different types of cherries in the Jerte Valley, with the main variety being the one without stalk called picota, which arrive from the first half of June and will remain in the markets with their quality label until the first week of August.
