Fruitimprese published data concerning the import and export that fresh produce trend during the first six months of 2015.
Both exports (+6% in quantity and +10.4% in value) and imports (+6.1% in quantity and +21.3% in value) were on the rise. The balance remains positive (around €272 million) despite a 31.6% drop with respect to 2014.
Among the reasons for this, there was the increase in citrus fruit imports due to the slow production in Italy and the strengthening of the Dollar, which led to an increase in the price of imported products.
During the period examined, Italy exported around 1.95 million tons of produce for a total value of €2.14 billion.
There was a slower trend for citrus fruit (-5.3%), vegetables (-0.7%) and dried fruit (-3.1%) but fresh fruit went up by 14.3%. In terms of value, the sign was positive for all segments - fresh fruit (+6.8%), vegetables (+15.3%), citrus fruit (+5.4%) and dried fruit (+20.1%).
As regards imports, Italy bought around 1.87 million tons of produce from abroad for a total value of €1.89 billion.
There was an increase of fresh fruit (+6.6%), vegetables (+2.4%) and citrus fruit (+54.2%) but a drop in dried fruit (-6.3%) and tropical fruit (-3.2%). The value was positive for all segments and particularly for citrus fruit (+54.9%) and dried fruit (+40.3%).
