Aspen Foods is recalling approximately 561,000lb of frozen, raw, stuffed, and breaded chicken products over concerns that they may be tainted with salmonella enteritidis.
The current recall expands that of 15 July to include further products under 19 different brands. Aspen Foods has opted to recall the products as "an effort to prevent additional illness."
The frozen, raw, stuffed, and breaded chicken products are ready-to-eat (RTE) and were produced between 25 August and 17 September. These products carry 'best if used by' dates of 23 August 2016 to 15 December 2016.
The 19 brands associated with this recall expansion include Acclaim, Buckley Farms, Centrella Signature, Family Favorites, Home Dining Selections, Rose, Rosebud Farm, and Sysco.
After the initial recall on 15 July 2015, FSIS further intensified sampling in order to ensure that the risk responsible for the initial contamination had been controlled by Aspen Foods.
However, results from FSIS sampling indicated positive results that matched the outbreak strain of salmonella enteritidis to Aspen Foods products.
On 15 July, Aspen Foods recalled approximately 1,978,680lb of frozen, raw, stuffed, and breaded chicken ready-to-eat prodcuts that were manufactured between 15 April 2015 and 10 July 2015, with best if used by dates between 14 July 2016 and 10 October 2016.
These products carry the establishment number P-1358 inside the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) mark of inspection, and were shipped to retail stores and food service outlets across the US.
