The fennel summer campaign was affected by the high temperatures which determined a 50% drop in production. "Summer was quite good price-wise, though quality was not very nice. It is the same as always, prices are high only when volumes lack, but those who lost half of their production have to compensate for it," says Marco Babbi, sales manager for Caligari & Babbi.

"The first transplants in the Romagna area also suffered, but we have finally reached a good quality. Prices are satisfactory and can guarantee a good profit."

"If we plan everything, we can supply fennel throughout the entire year - that from Fucino in summer, that from Apulia in winter and the local one plus that from Basilicata and Calabria in spring and autumn. Recently, we have increased the number of suppliers because demand is high both in Italy and abroad."

Caligari & Babbi destines its produce to Italian retailers and markets. Exports to the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, UK, Ireland and Denmark represent 30% of the turnover.
