Mushrooms are growing in production and value, due to a surge in consumer demand. Bord Bia estimates that both the North and South mushroom production in Ireland has the combined value of 173 million Euro.
UK mushroom production is estimated at £115 million at farm gate level and up to 80% of Irish mushrooms are sold at the export market. The UK and Irish markets are both showing steady growth in both quantity and value. The UK market is said to be performing very well with mushrooms compared to vegetables as a whole, as most vegetables are growing in quantity but declining in price.
