Fresh Express Inc, based in Salinas, California has voluntarily recalled 350 cases of packaged baby spinach that may have been exposed to almonds, due to the risk of triggering severe, and even life-threatening physical reactions among people allergic to the nuts.

The 12-ounce bags have use-by dates of Jan. 24 and the product code, G010A17A. Company officials say in a press release that they are working with stores to remove the spinach bags from stores in unspecified southern and eastern states.

No other Fresh Express products have been recalled.

The release issued on Friday 15 January goes on to say that the company has no reports of anyone becoming ill from the spinach.

“The recall was necessitated when a portion of a single almond was inadvertently introduced into the production supply. In order to safeguard the health and well being of consumers, Fresh Express is conducting a precautionary recall of product that could have come into contact with the almond during this isolated incident,” says a statement by the company.

Anyone in possession of any of the affected bags of spinach is asked to discard it and to request a refund from where it was purchased or to request a refund by calling toll-free the Fresh Express Consumer Response Center at +1-800-242-5472 between 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

It wasn’t immediately clear Wednesday how much the recall might cost Fresh Express.

The company called the incident “isolated” and announced it is cooperating with a U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation on what happened.
