The State Agency for Agricultural Insurances (ENESA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment extended the period for the signing of kaki insurances, whose deadline is usually set at 10 February.
This was ENESA's response to a request issued by the sector last Monday and whose resolution was reported the day after to the Professional Agricultural Organisations and to Cooperativas Agroalimentarias.
A two day extension was granted, which proved to be long enough for all pending requests to be handled after a sufficiently long subscription period.
While the sector has not raised the need to make changes to the subscription period at the working and regulation groups of the General Committee at ENESA, this request was met in order to make sure no growers were left without the chance of signing insurances for purely operational reasons.
The deadlines are set in a way so that the signing of insurances is closed as soon as the period with the highest risk for damage to the crop starts.
