The general coordinator of International Affairs at Sagarpa, Raúl Urteaga Trani, stated that Mexican producers have vast potential to increase their presence in the European market with the export of bananas, avocados, berries, mangoes and lemons, among other products.
He noted that this opportunity will be seized in the framework of the adjustments made to the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Union, which should be made this year.
"We are very interested in renegotiating the access of Mexican bananas to the European Union and in substantially boosting the shipment of avocados, berries, mangos and lemons."
Urteaga Trani was interviewed at the launch of the campaign "Tastes of Europe", organised by the European Union from 10 to 12 February with the goal of promoting the value of the tradition and diversity of European foods and drinks.
He said that the importance of the European Union for Mexico "is not up for discussion, because it gives domestic producers the opportunity to enter a large market consisting of 28 countries."
