Merchants from Shandong, Guangdong, Gansu flock to production areas, pushing demand and prices up. Currently, red onion prices have reached its highest peak in years.

Onion prices in Gansu are especially high, and stock levels low. On one hand, much of its production goes into export, rendering Gansu's supply of yellow onions very tight. On the other hand, fresh onions from Yunnan come highly price, pushing prices in Gansu upwards. In Pingdu, the supply remains stable, with new local stock as well as older stock from Gansu.
