Now it comes to the season of pineberries in UK. This new fruit variety is priced at 2.99 pounds per box (125g), or roughly 240RMB per kilo. At this moment, only 3 Chinese companies grow this fruit breed, and its appearance in the Shuangliu winter strawberry picking festival has demonstrated its huge market potentials driven by consumer demands.
As the name suggests, this fruit genre shares the similar comportment as strawberry in terms of the shape, and it has a creamy white flesh and evenly distributed red sesame-like dots on the surface. However, in terms of the taste, it tastes more like a pineapple as it contains a substance called prion pineapple enzyme that breaks down protein. In addition, the pineapple enzyme protein can dissolve fibrin clot and blood blocks that obstruct the tissue. Therefore, it can further improve partial blood circulation, eliminate inflammation and edema. Next to its attractive appearance and good taste, this fruit can also be used to make juice, candied fruit, desserts, or mix with yogurt.
Dated back to its origin, Pineberry is derived from a South American wild strawberry, and it needs to be cultivated in the greenhouse. When the fruits turn from green to white and the sesame-like dots turn dark red, it suggests that they are ready to eat.
