A stable and steady supply of U.S. grown green onions is coming from Southern California, Arizona, and South Carolina, according to various sources.

“I think there’s an adequate supply right now,” explained Trey Touchstone of Touchstone & Associates in San Antonio, Texas, adding that while he moves a very small amount of green onions overall, he sees a consistent and stable demand for green onions throughout the calendar year.

“There’s a year round demand, and our demand comes from the food service, who are a majority of our clients,” adding that in the West, green onions are now coming from Central California.

“The season is about to switch and move from Southern California up to Oxnard, and green onions will be coming out of Salinas soon, possibly next week, and throughout the summer,” said Touchstone.

There’s also an ample supply of green onions coming from the southeastern region of the U.S., according to Ashley Rawl of WP Rawl in Pelion, South Carolina. “Green onion supplies are good,” Rawl said, adding that green onions do best when they have adequate sun and water.

According to Touchstone, current pricing is average, at $10.00 per 4-dozen f.ob.
