Today, Friday, 8 April, the Asociación Agricultura Viva is organising its first assembly in the halls of Campoejido. The new organization plans to present an initiative designed to change the current marketing process in the fruit and vegetable market.
Asociación Agricultura Viva, based in El Ejido, already has 1,500 associates from western Almeria and the Costa Tropical. It is the first interprovincial entity bringing together producers with some common interests.
They have already maintained contacts with 12 traders and another of its plans is the creation of a committee of intellectuals, who will come up with ideas on how to fix issues that have been taking a negative toll for years, such as the setting of prices.
The group, which was officially set up on 10 February, is chaired by Jesús Fuentes Callejón, who claims to have revived the hopes of a part of the sector with its plans to improve irrigation with water from the dam of Rules, shared with José Antonio Pérez's Federation of Irrigators, or with its crop planning and implementation of withdrawal prices for about 10% of the production.
