Exporters are interested in the Sindhri and Chaunsa varieties, so much so that they had made contracts with orchards' owners months before the season started.
Muhammad Umer Bughio, a farmer, told The News that due to some climatic reasons and water shortage, the production of Sindhri was around five percent less than last year. However, he seemed happy over the volume of purchasing by the exporters. "This time we see more mango exporters in Mirpurkhas which is a good sign for the future of mango and growers as well," he said.
According to some experts, the mango season normally lasts till the end of June, but this time round, due to exporters’ extraordinary interest, the season may hardly run up to the second week of June.
