The Greek Deputy Minister for Rural Development and Food, Mr Markos Bolaris, has signed an amendment to the Greek regulation concerning the protective measures against the introduction of organisms that can be potentially harmful to plants or plant products.

Executive Decision 2016/715 defines concrete measures to prevent the introduction and spread of the harmful Phyllosticta citricarpa, an ascomycete that attacks the leaves and fruits of citrus in subtropical climates.

According to the provisions of the Ministerial Decision, all citrus cargo from Brazil, Uruguay and South Africa arriving to the ports of Piraeus and Thessaloniki will undergo phytosanitary controls at the Regional Centres of Plant Protection and Quality of Piraeus and Thessaloniki, which have the necessary equipment for the detection of this pest.
