The Tommy Atkins and Ataulfo will be the primary volume for Crespo Organic’s Sinaloa mango program. Harvesting out of smaller orchards, the Haden will be available sporadically throughout the season, along with specialty mangos. Kent and Keitt will finish off the regions’ varietals as usual. The Sinaloa season and its welcoming large volumes should keep the Crespo Organic Mango program busy through mid August, followed finally by the region of Los Mochis, predicted to offer a longer-than-usual high quality mango production as well.
Fruit quality from the Sinaloa region will continue to be above average, marked by firm arrivals with smooth skin, great coloring, as well as extremely high Brix. The lack of substandard product on the market will continue to help prices remain stable and volume-focused. The market is expected to wane in pricing on larger fruit, confirmed Jose Angel, El Grupo Crespo co-owner and program director at Crespo Organic.
Additional ample opportunity lies in smaller-sized organic Haden orchards in Rosario, Sinaloa. Jorge Crespo, El Grupo Crespo’s Supply Manager and co-owner, expects some of the smaller outlining orchards of the Haden to be plentiful this year, expected to size up at a 12-14 count.
“The smaller fruit opportunities are perfect for our customers selling mangos by the case during our June and July SUMMER MANGO MANIA #MUCHOSmangos promotions,” said Malu Crespo, El Grupo Crespo’s co-owner and director of Nogales operations.
Expect a continuance of excellent volume in favored organic sizing. Large volumes of organic Tommy Atkins and Ataulfo, as well as specialty mangos, will continue to be distributed nationwide and in Canada under the Crespo Organic label, as customers embrace this direct (authentic farm-to-table)
program.
