Core Tip: There may be a great revolution in the cherry market this season.
There may be a great revolution in the cherry market this season, as reported to the site www.sadyogrody.pl by Bozena Nosecka, an expert from the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Food Economy.

She said that stocks of cherries in processing plants will likely remain at least at the level of 2015, while the size of the harvest and purchase prices may be higher than last year.

"The reason for this is the relatively high demand for these fruits by domestic processing plants, resulting from the increased demand for their products in foreign markets. This has also been observed to a lower extent with strawberries, which are the next dominant product when it comes to the supply of soft fruit for processing," she explains.

Bozena Nosecka said that, in mid-July, the purchase price of cherries for processing amounted to approximately 2 złoty/kg, compared to 1.80 złoty/kg in mid-July 2015. This entails that the profitability for producers has increased.
