In its weekly report, the Ministry of Agriculture (MAG) stated that the harvest of vegetables for September was guaranteed with 120,082 quintals of tomato, taking into account the monthly consumption plan of Nicaraguans.
"We expect potato production will stand at 98,474 quintals, which will allow us to cover the average monthly consumption of Nicaraguan families which, according to the Production Plan, stands at 81 thousand quintals," said Minister Edgard Centeno.
He also said they expected to produce 36,861 quintals of carrots, 36,000 quintals of sweet peppers, 104,622 quintals of cabbage, and 57,000 quintals of onion, which means the country will be able to cover its demand for vegetables.
"We have a good production output for the month of September, which will allow us to continue having a good supply in the markets, guaranteeing favorable prices for Nicaraguan families," Centeno said.
He also said there was a good supply of corn (82,451 quintals) and beans (166,029 quintals) in the markets. In addition, he said, there is 4% more potatoes, 3% more carrots and cabbage, and 1% more onions, tomato, and sweet pepper.
