According to Tianjin Fisheries Bureau, this year’s China shrimp season at Bohai Gulf officially kicked off on 20th August, which would last by the end of the year. Tianjin government totally released more than 1.5 billion shrimp fry into Bohai Gulf this year for proliferation. Based on recapture rate in previous years, it’s estimated that a total of 1, 300 tonnes of China shrimp would be caught back during the shrimp fishing season, whose total output value was expected to surpass 0.2 billion yuan.
Fisheries experts explained that China shrimp was the featured aquatic species in Bohai Gulf, enjoying rich nutrition and delicious flesh. And it also boasts popularity among local citizens. However, owing to marine pollution, overfishing and other factors, the catches has dropped sharply since 1990s. To regain large population of the shrimp, the government has stocked artificially hatched and reproduced shrimp fry into Bohai Gulf in straight years. And the proliferation and releasing has already achieved both economic and ecological benefits, recapture rate up to 2.24% in consecutive years. The ratio of input to output is around 1: 11.21.
To speed up recovering overall shrimp resources in Bohai Gulf, the coastal provinces like Hebei province, Liaoning province and Shandong province also implement positive measures and stock shrimp fry in large amount into province-owned sea areas. Besides, local fishery departments would strengthen their joint supervision and law enforcement level, severely cracking down illegal and secret fishing to ensure the safe growth of shrimp fry.
From the day, more than 500 fishing boats will go to fishing in the Bohai Gulf. Local fishery administrations warn fishermen that all the fishing boats must obtain fishing certificate, completely prohibiting illegal fishing activities. What’s worth to mention is that the summer fishing moratorium of Bohai Sea hasn’t ended by now. Only shrimp harvest has been permitted so far, and other categories of fishes fishing has to wait until the fishing ban is lifted. It’s sure that the shrimp will soon be available on market after the fishing season begins.
