Core Tip: Light supplies of garlic coming from China have contributed to strong prices for Garlic in the United States.
Light supplies of garlic coming from China have contributed to strong prices for Garlic in the United States. Pricing for product from California is being determined by growers right now, and those prices could be good depending on what packouts look like in the coming weeks.

“Harvesting in California started in late June, and, if things look good, will take us into supplies from Mexico in May of next year,” said Kian Fattahi with Global Farms Enterprises. “Yields look good for what we've received so far, but they're still packing out there so no one is completely sure about packouts.”

Once it's determined what the packouts look like, growers then figure out what pricing will be through the rest of the year. For now, prices are high because of limited supplies from other countries.

“There are not too many shipments from China because they've been short, but prices are attractive enough right now that we see the odd shipment from a random country once in a while,” said Fattahi. “It doesn't seem like there's too much on the market right now, so I see prices staying high.”
