According to Shanghai Fisheries Trade Association (SFTA), annual average trading volume of aquatic products in Shanghai in recent 3 years is about 1.4 million tonnes and annual consumption volume is about 0.85 million tonnes. Several large aquatic product markets in the region bear such huge amount, but the overall market layout, transaction service, cold-chain logistics and so on are relatively out-dated.

The news was announced on 24th August when 2016 Yangtze River Delta Fisheries Development Forum was held on Pudong, Shanghai. It stated that Linghai International Agricultural Product Trade Center, near Shanghai Free Trade Zone, was going to operate on 26th September this year. The total area of the new market is more than 100, 000 square meters, which would be new a choice for Shanghai consumers as Tongchuan Road market, the traditional large seafood market, will be shut down on 31st October this year.

Imported aquatic product will become outstanding feature of the Trade Center. Chinese investors and world-famous aquatic fishing and processing enterprises, who have been closely cooperating with each other for many years, have acquired fisheries companies in Bahamas, Panama, Dominica etc. and processing factories from Vietnam, Thailand an so on, which can save many middle chains and decrease the price of the imported aquatic product. According to elementary assessment, annual trading volume of the Trade Center is likely to reach 500, 000 tonnes.

First phase of the Trade Center includes global frozen seafood display area, live fresh seafood display area, shellfish area, dried seafood area, online transaction area, administrative and business working area, large cold storage and other function area. Relevant standard facilities will also be ready by the opening time. And government offices related to Industry and Commerce, tax, quality inspection, health and safety, quarantine etc. and other services like bank settlement, transportation, security etc will also be ready.

It’s reported that expected position of the Trade Center in the future is to develop into a aquatic product trading platform, which will comprehensively involve e-commerce, display and marketing, commodities storage, cold chain and distribution, food safety tracing system and so on. Meanwhile, it’s also an professional and international seafood center, which would realize efficient online aquatic product transaction, offline distribution and delivery, e-settlement, and so on.
