On 17 and 18 November, the municipality of Manresa, in Barcelona, will host the 4th Symposium on Organic Agro-Food Production, which this year is focused on organic fruit growing. The event will be organised by the Department of Agriculture of the Government of Catalonia with the collaboration of IRTA.

For a few years now, the Catalan people, as in other European countries, have been showing a greater willingness to consume high quality food grown locally and in an environmentally-friendly manner.

This trend, accompanied by the strong interest of some Catalan producers, has resulted in a moderate but constant supply of organic fruit. The sector still faces many technical shortcomings that could become obstacles to its future development and for the consolidation of producers and companies working in it.

The symposium's goal is to facilitate the transfer of up-to-date technical information of interest for the sector. To this end, the event will count on the participation of various experts in the field from outside Catalonia and will become a meeting place for the exchange of experiences for all Spanish professionals in organic fruit growing.
