In Kozhikode, the Kudumbashree mission will set up special outlets through the Community Development Societies (CDSs) to sell organic vegetables during the onam festival season. The mission will harvest vegetables cultivated on around 400 acres of unused land in the first week of September so the public to purchase pesticide free vegetables.
The land was brought under cultivation as part of its vegetable farming project. A special onam fair will be held to sell the products and exclusive outlets for the sale of vegetables will also be opened.
E A Thahir, assistant mission coordinator, Kozhikode district Kudumbashree mission said all types of vegetables except those grown in the winter climate will be available. The mission aims at ensuring a healthy onam to public by providing pesticide free vegetables. A final decision on the number of stalls and fairs to be organising will be decided after holding a meeting with the officials, he said.
