Core Tip: California Sun Dry Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto” has been recalled by its manufacturer.
“California Sun Dry Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto” has been recalled by its manufacturer, California Sun Dry Foods. According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, this product was mislabeled: the labels on certain lots do not declare the presence of almond and milk allergens. The error was discovered when a California Sun Dry Foods employee noticed the flawed label while merchandising the product at a grocery store.

The affected jars have front labels that correctly designate the product as “California Sun Dry Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto, 8.5 oz.” On the back of the jars, though, there are incorrect labels which state that the contents are “California Sun Dry-Dried Tomato Garlic.” These faulty labels are marked with the UPC code #7-38203-10911-3; the caps of the affected jars are stamped with the code date PTP0567A USE BY 25FEB2019. These jars were distributed to retail stores across the United States.

Eating this tomato pesto product could produce illness or death in individuals who are allergic to almonds and milk. The affected jars should be disposed of or returned to the store for a complete refund.
