Asparagus producers from Guadalajara have met with officials of the Council of Agriculture in order to study the possibility of joining forces for the marketing of their products.
The meeting was attended by the general director of Industrias Agroalimentarias, Gregorio Jaime Rodríguez, and by the provincial director of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development, Santos López, as well as by managers of Local Action groups of the areas with the highest production of asparagus in the province and by representatives of agricultural organizations.
This responds to a commitment that the general director made to these producers last spring, when he visited the facilities of several firms in the municipality of Torre del Burgo, as reported in a press release by the regional Government.
The general director reminded the attendees about "the interest of the regional Government to promote the commercial and cooperative integration of producers" and outlined the details of the aid to be granted, which could reach up to 400,000 Euro per producer group.
In his visit last spring, Gregorio Jaime Rodríguez also found out about the interest on the part of the producers to learn about formulas for the use of single quality brands.
Therefore, information has been provided on the possibilities of marketing under a single brand and on the feasibility of implementing a designation of origin, as well as on other issues that may help improve the marketing of these products.
The green asparagus of Guadalajara is an excellent quality product, highly demanded in national and international markets. In fact, a large part of the province's production is exported, mainly to France and Germany.
