Core Tip: While weather is getting colder every day, vegetable prices are going up.
While weather is getting colder every day, vegetable prices are going up. The latest statistics from the Beijing Xinfadi Market showed that a weighted average of vegetables' prices is 2.04 yuan per kilo, which is 7.37% higher than it was in the last cycle. Liu Tong from Xinfadi Market statistics department has said that the most significant increase had been seen in the prices of lentils and cauliflower. The wholesale price of lentils rose from 6 yuan per kilo to 9.6 yuan per kilo, which is 30% more than in the last cycle.

The main reason for the rise in lentil prices is the change of supplier. Tianjin and Hebei Laoting lentils farms began to withdraw from the market, now there is only one main producer of lentils, Yuanmou County of Yunnan Province, so the price is higher. However, the Yuanmou area of lentil cultivation increased this year. Harvest season there has just begun. The volume of lentils on the Market will be larger soon and their price might go down.

Another vegetable that has become more expensive is cauliflower, it's price increased by 27.78%. The cauliflowers on the Market are mainly produced in Beijing and the surrounding areas, in the open field. After the temperature dropped, the quality of the cauliflowers is not good enough for it to be sold. The cauliflower that has appeared on the Market recently was produced in greenhouses in Shandong, so its price is higher.

Liu Tong said that from now on Beijing's vegetable supply mode will change from autumn to winter mode. Non-seasonal vegetables will continue to arrive on the Beijing Market, but their prices will be higher.
