According to Pakhno, about 70% of those walnuts are exported, unlike hazelnuts, which are mainly intended for the domestic market.
Moreover, the acreage devoted to nuts has expanded this year. "About 2,180 hectares will be planted with walnuts and hazelnuts this year," said the Association's President.
Nut orchards are expanding in all regions of Ukraine, although most actively in the Vinnytsia, Transcarpathian, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk and Kherson regions, said Vladimir Pakhno
"Due to climatic conditions, hazelnuts tend to be planted in the north of the country, while walnuts are grown in all regions of Ukraine, except for those same northern regions," explained Pakhno.
