Core Tip: Kenya's president Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to sign an avocado export deal during his visit in China.
Kenya's president Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to sign an avocado export deal during his visit in China. He is there to attend the first China International Import Expo (CIIE). The deal is also expected to bolster the export of other horticultural products (such as mangoes and cashew nuts) to the expansive Chinese market.

Uhuru is among the top guests who have turned up for the trade fair which will kicked off on Monday, November 5.

On Sunday, November 4, Uhuru met with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. The meeting was focused on promoting economic and trade exchange and cooperation between the two countries. Uhuru is in China amid a time when there is a heated debate on importation of Chinese fish that is feared to have flooded the Kenyan market. The department of fisheries had issued a ban aimed at collapsing fish imports from China from January 2019. However, on Monday October 29, it lifted the ban stating it needed more time to develop frameworks that will guide the implementation of the ban.

As China had threatened to impose trade sanctions on Kenya stating that the ban would be unfair treatment for Chinese people trading in the county, Kenya's president will also be trying to defuse the situation and open China's market for his nation's exports.
