Yalova, a city to the south of Istanbul, has announced a new initiative to grow persimmons on an area of 10.4 hectares.

Farmers received persimmon saplings during a ceremony organized by the Yalova Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forest. The fruit's productivity has increased over the last few years and has become a major source of revenue for the farmers in the area.

Kocadere district hosted the ceremony to distribute persimmon saplings to farmers. Yalova Mayor Muammer Erol participated in the ceremony.

Provincial Director informed the participants
Yalova Provincial Director Suat Parildar informed the Mayor Muammer Erol during the ceremony about the project. Suat Parildar stated that farmers from four villages in the area received persimmon saplings to grow in a total area of 10.4 hectares. Parildar continued: "As part of our project called 'Improvement and Diversification of Fruit Growing Activities in Yalova', we will grow 3.750 saplings in a garden of 10.4 hectares."

Farmers received 5.450 persimmon saplings
"Thanks to the project which is funded by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forest and the city of Yalova, farmers received the first round of saplings in April. Together with the second round today, we distributed 5.450 saplings in total. In the villages of Kocadere, Tesvikiye, Calica and Esenkoy we're building a total area of 10.4 hectares dedicated to persimmon culture." Parildar added.

"We aim to be amongst the top 3"
"Our business started in 2017 in Ciftlikkoy district and with this development project in 2018 we managed to reach 39 farmers. Since 2017 we gave our farmers 8.575 saplings for a field of 16,6 hectares. We expect to create a volume of 1 million Turkish lira per year as soon as our fruit gardens becomes fully operational. Our city ranks sixth in Turkey with approximately 2.000 tons of production. With this project, we aim to produce up to 4.000 tons and be amongst the top three producers in the country." said Parildar.
