R.L. Zeigler Co of Selma, Alabama is recalling about 11,664 pounds of ready to eat Red Hot Sausage poultry and meat sausages because they may be contaminated with foreign materials. The recall notice did not state what the material was.
These ready to eat sausages were produced on November 29, 2018. The recalled products are:
24-ounce plastic packages containing approximately 9 links of “ZEIGLER A TRADITION OF GREAT TASTE RED HOTS” with a “Use By Jan 24 19” date.
24-ounce plastic packages containing approximately 9 links of “EXTRA HOT ZEIGLER A TRADITION OF GREAT TASTE RED HOTS” with a “Use By Jan 24 19” date.
These items have the establishment number “EST. P-9156S” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to and sold from retail locations nationwide.
The problem was discovered when consumer complaints were received by the company on December 13 and December 27, 2018. The firm is investigating the complaints, and informed the FSIS on December 29, 2018. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the issue. Foreign materials in foods can pose a choking hazard, and can also cause injury to the tongue, teeth, or mouth, depending on the material.
If you purchased either of these items, don’t eat them. Throw them away in a sealed package, or take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund.
